Apple iPod New line of digital audio players

What is iPod?
Ipod is a popular brand of portable media players that are designed and marketed by Apple. It was launched in 2001. The sales of iPod have crossed 110 million across the globe by September 2007 that makes iPod the best selling digital audio player in history. The iPods can also function as external data storage devices like many other digital music players. There is an impressive line up of iPods such as the original style hard drive based flagship model iPod classic, the iPod touch, the low-end screenless iPod shuffle, the mind level video capable iPod nano, (the former iPod mini was replaced by iPod nano) and the high-end spin off iPod photo. The iPod classic models use the hard drive for storing the media content whereas the other models use flash memory for storage to maintain their small size.
File formats
The iPod is compatible with MP3, AAC, M4A, Protected AAC, AIEF, WAV, Apple Lossless audio and Audible audio book file formats. Image file formats like JPEG, BMP, GIF, TIEF and PNG. The fifth and sixth generations of iPod classics and third generation nanos have the additional capacity of playing MPEG-4 and Quick Time Video formats.
Interface
The iPods with color displays make use of anti-aliased graphics and text. Classic iPods are more innovative and have buttons integrated into the click wheel which performs the basic tasks like play, next track and the like. The volume can be adjusted by rotating the click wheel. iPod shuffle has no click wheel but buttons for various controls. iPod touch uses Multi-touch input style like in the iPhone.
The iTune software
These devices use the iTunes software for transferring music to them. The iTune acts as a juke box application that is capable of storing the music library on your computer and it can playback; it can burn and rip music from CDs. The iTunes software can also transfer photos, videos, games etc. to the iPods that are compatible with them. The iPods can ply music from online stores with some restrictions. The equalizer software enhances the sound in the iPod by amplifying the digital audio level.
