Sony Ericsson W580i the latest offering from Sony Ericsson is an absolute sensation. A beauty of a handset that will the owners delight. The mobile phones look striking with the vivacious colors and the anodized metal etchings on the underside. It has a built in Walkman 2.0 music player.

Design

It has one of the most noticeable designs. It has a smooth shape and compact dimensions that make it easy to carry. The slider mechanism is pretty good. Under this slider design are the usual high-end Walkman features, all of which deliver uncompromising performance.

Display

The 2 inch display screen sports 262,144-color and is of 240×320 pixels. Though it may seem small but it is bright and brilliant. The brightness can be adjusted too.

Keys

The navigation buttons are placed just below the screen. The circular toggle and central OK button are large and tactile. The blue backlight adds to its look. Other navigation controls consisted of two soft keys, a back button, a clear button, a dedicated Walkman control, and an “Activity menu” button that opens a secondary shortcuts menu. The numbers on the key pad are quite large and makes for easy typing. The bright backlighting helps for dialing in poorly lit situations.

Walkman

Like all the other walkman phones it has an equalizer, play lists, stereo widening, and shuffle and loop modes. It also has the superb TrackID music recognition which will allow the phone to recognize the music being played. The phone comes with a shake control application. You can advance to the next track by just flicking your wrist.

Camera

It has a 2 MP camera which also plays video. It can shoot photos in three sizes (2-megapixel, 1-megapixel, and standard VGA). It also comes with PhotoDJ and VideoDJ applications, and you can connect the phone directly to a photo printer. Other options include two quality settings, three color effects, a night mode, white-balance and brightness adjustments, a digital zoom, and four shutter sounds. The clarity of pictures taken is quite good.

Features

It also has features such as Bluetooth (including a stereo profile), e-mail support, PC syncing, USB mass storage, a code memo for storing sensitive information, and USB cable support. One important feature which you would love if you are a fitness freak is the pedometer for running and walking, a sports trivia game, and a fitness trainer for tracking your workouts.
